Without anchor Way out there Covered in clouds It’s nowhere With rebellion On our side Speak for your Love It’s alright Funny spaces To walk through Doors open wide Just for you I don’t need your fire Portal’s open But I can’t rush Melting away It’s too much right now With our anchor Anywhere Speak for your love It’s out there

Glicken 04:19
We belong here The end of days has come at last O holy mountain fair We cower from your smoke and ash These are dark days to be in Washington state, oh well You came to relieve me In a changing of the final guard This fortuitous meeting I am called away at the eleventh hour How is it your fate? I would have died in your place an day Hand up over hand, we climb until we reach the wall Where our hearts are consumed in the heat from the river of fire My conscience is heavy I threw myself into my work I stand in your shadow We make the beds in which we lie My luck is short lived We must return what we give someday Hand up over hand We climb until we reach the wall Where our hearts are consumed in the heat from the river of fire

Since I got here I’ve been strange It’s a lot to take in and I’m just trying to make my way At my school we had it made Here the halls and the rooms are convincing me to stay It’s all starting to make sense Is it the end times? I’ve been quick to fall in line After it’s alright and it helps me to fill my time Yeah, I’m getting used to it The relief of routine of that I just can’t hold in mind I could help you find your friends But I can’t see them I know we’re here to learn There’s not much I need to know It’s not all on me What we do when we’re asleep I could be alright like this I’m at home in my mind now I spent some time with you Maybe this is all it is Looking out for your friends you can feel it when they’re due It’s all starting to make sense Is it the times I know we’re here to learn There’s not much I need to know It’s not all on me What we do when we’re asleep I know we’re here to learn There’s not much I need to know

Even now I am well under way As you read this I drive all night Highway lights Parting words are languid and hollow When I’m long gone Hold on to them for me Thin line Neatly decides Day and night Lingering debts have long since been paid down To release them I will play one more tune Then I’m through These few hours between dawn and daylight I wish only that you think of me well So long as you will Past lives Ties that bind Won’t unwind Having found that rarest of creatures I go lightly in that more perfect world The unspoiled view

John’s in deep for the ghost orchid Bloodied his hands on a barbed wire fence Moving target Wires flex and bend Collared making off with the priming cutting The law would set him with some time to spend Moving target Flowers crossed and bred inside his head He don’t go near the ocean floor There’s nothing there he’s looking for anymore He’s not a mile in from shore There’s nothing there he’s looking for anymore Scouring the bush for the perfect ten The water seeping up to his chest and ribs Moving target Chances spread too thin Scoring is preferred over life and limb The subtle is a wolf of a drug to kick Moving target Prizes put to bed inside his head He don’t go near the ocean floor There’s nothing there he’s looking for He’s not a mile in from shore There’s nothing there he’s looking for anymore

Even Keel 04:24
Even keel Swing me through the sky I kept you too close Sometime ask me why Pushed back From wherever we launched from Something makes the sunrise never end It could be tomorrow Gravity’s our ally to defend this time Pass me by We’ll bounce back again Stretching along

Shiny, small lump of metal that splashed down here Careful, these things are jumpy the disappear Frantic, not what to wear if you want to ground Precious, your hands are soft as you tie it down Across the sea You’ll still have memories on which we’ll agree Here and now It looks like rain Glisten, Sylvanshine Corners, boxes and benches and concrete walls Angles, we’ll talk in triangles all night long Tattered flags on the poles they leave out all night Struggle, keep your head down or give up the fight Righteous, he’s got society on his side But we’re electric You take the wheel I’m down for the ride Across the sea You’ll still have memories on which we’ll agree Here and now It looks like rain Glisten, Sylvanshine

Away, away beside you I’m ever flowing Out in the fray Without our other waiting for an answer Wait out his haze We’re all in circles here Try not to wonder why and learn You’re right above me now Clear light all around All proud, invitations flowing in like rainbows Dark empty skies Pearls for the trough I’ve slung over my shoulder Satin and wine We’re all in circles here Try not to wonder why and learn You’re right above me, how Where’d the thread go now?

about

Speak for Your Love is the chronicle of Slight’s progression from DIY upstarts to accomplished creators amid the seismic changes of the pandemic era.

Tracked in just seven days at the now defunct studio of Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s Dave Bryant, the album’s formation epitomized the independent spirit of late 2010s Montreal.

With material assembled from years living and playing in underground venues, Speak for Your Love evokes the rich experimentation and delicately crafted songwriting of the scene’s most notable luminaries.

More open and naturalistic than Slight’s early bedroom EPs, Speak for Your Love finds songwriters Michael Hahn and Danji Buck-Moore embracing painterly set pieces and more varied instrumentation.

Still a muscular three-piece band at heart, Slight’s lean and powerful live feel permeates the album’s driving motorik rhythms, soaring fuzzed out solos and harmonically dazzling synths.

With songs populated by offbeat characters, celestial tableaus and stories out of time and place, Speak for your love fuses the high concept, organ-driven quirkiness of Stereolab’s mid-90s run with the neo-psych textures of early Tame Impala and the taught arrangements of 2010s indie.
